| | The Chico Chamber of Commerce Community Corporation, in conjunction with California State University, Chico and local business partners, have formed the Sustainable Business Partnership-- a collaboration focused on helping our entire business community move in the direction of sustainability.
"Simply defined, sustainability reflects a “triple bottom line” goal of making sure our actions as businesses have economic, social and environmental benefit," said Jim Goodwin, President and CEO of the Chico Chamber. "As an example, if we can reduce energy consumption (good for the environment), we will save money (good for our own bottom line) that can be invested elsewhere in the community (social benefit). Everyone wins," he said. "Obviously, the example is over-simplified," he said, "but it does illustrate the goal." Goodwin said this isn’t just about existing businesses--that there is tremendous opportunity for new business and technological development associated with the goal.
"The Sustainable Business Partnership is a place to begin... We are all about building our local economy, and this effort simply makes good sense."
