Butte Humane Society Cat Adoption Fee Temporarily Reduced to $35
Butte Humane Society is reducing cat adoption rates to only $35 (normally $55) in the hopes of finding homes for the many cats in their shelter, located at 2579 Fair Street. This reduced rate will remain until their cat room population decreases. Chico's homeless cat population experiences a high increase every summer, and the majority of their cats have been with them for a month or more. The average cost of preparing a cat for adoption is $150, which includes vaccinations, feeding, parasite treatment/prevention, microchipping, and spay or neuter. This does not include the medical treatment that many also require. Adopted cats and kittens are sent home with a cardboard carrier and a bag of Science Diet Food, and are eligible for many discounts at local pet suppliers including a coupon book from Petco valued at $160. For more information, contact the Butte Humane Society at (530)343-7917, www.buttehumane.org.

News from Turtle Bay
Turtle Bay recently hired American for the Arts, an independent consulting agency, to examine its place in the economic fabric of Shasta County. American for the Arts uses Nobel Prize-winning methodology that has been reviewed by the White House, as well as major private sector businesses, such as Bank of America.
Here is a list of some of their key findings: Turtle Bay Exploration Park provides more than $9.6 million of economic impact to the Shasta County area.
Turtle Bay contributes more than $5 million to local households through payroll and vendors.
Of Turtle Bay's 156,000 visitors to the museum, forest camp, and gardens, 52% comes from out of the area, and spends $3 million outside the park at restaurants, hotels, transportation, etc.. This amounts to just under $40 spent per person.
